Christian Aid Week raises sum of £9,400, with more to come

A GROUP of 30 volunteers across the Larne area helped out during this year’s Christian Aid Week through various collections and the organisation would like to thank them and all the people who kindly donated.

Jackie Tennant, Larne’s Christian Aid organiser, said: “So far, we’ve got around £9,400 overall from across the area with hopefully a little bit more to come.”

A lunch was held in First Larne Presbyterian Church which raised £370. Jackie wished to thank everyone who participated in Christian Aid Week and to everyone who donated.

Church collections took place across Larne and the money continues to come in from all places across the district. By raising money through these events, Christian Aid can continue to work with local organisations around the world to help provide a better future for those who are less fortunate.

This year’s focus of Christian Aid Week is on a rural village called Gbap, situated in Sierra Leone. The village was impoverished but through Christian Aid’s work, the locals were able to create a sustainable source of food and the village is now thriving.
