Christina honours aunt’s memory with charity event

Christina Scullion, who is originally from Lurgan, has organised a coffee morning and family fun day in the Woodville Arms, Lake Street in aid of Macmillan on September 22.

The event is in memory of her aunt Anna Harte who died two years ago of cancer, leaving a husband and five children - all under the age of 18. Anna was born in Lurgan, lived in Aghacommon and used to work in the Golden Crust.

Christina explained, “I’ve wanted to do something like this for the past two years, but I was pregnant and now I’ve had the baby and she’s up a bit I feel in better shape to organise it. At first I thought we could have a coffee morning in my house, but things spiralled from there. The event started life as a simple coffee morning is now quickly turning into a large event.”

Christina has so far secured donations from Punjana and Coca-Cola, Halma Packaging UK, Fairytale Fountains, Funky Foto Booths, CKS Carts, Northern Irish designer Ann Marie Robinson and Belleek Pottery.

“With the help of local businesses we have secured our invitations, candy cart, chocolate fountain, children’s characters Mickey and Minnie with face painting, ballot prizes, some baked goods donations.

Ballot prizes have been donated from such places as W5, Titanic Belfast, Aunt Sandra’s Candy Factory as well as lots of local businesses. Any more help or financial donations would be greatly appreciated,” she added.

“I wish to make this event as big and successful as possible. I hope it will prove to be a great family day out for all. I really want to thank the many local businesses who have gotten involved so far, and for providing much needed support. This is a community wide event, and everyone is welcome.”
