Christine gives up fringe benefits for Women’s Aid

Christine Davies has gone beyond the fringe, for a good cause.

Well beyond, for Christine had her long tresses cut off and then had her head shaved, all to raise money that will help Women’s Aid to support women and children living with domestic violence.

The charity hopes people will continue to make donations in response to Christine’s brave move.

Nigel Jones, from Creative Hair at the Murrayfield Centre, took up the challenge of cutting off Christine’s lovely locks last week in the Women’s Aid office at 75 Main Street Larne.

With every snip, Christine renewed her resolve to help Women’s Aid provide a lifeline for women and children suffering from the effects of domestic violence in Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey and the charity has said that every penny raised will be spent in those areas.

Women’s Aid has helped women to develop friendships and become more independent. At a time when women have no one, they are there. The organisation is dedicated to providing refuge, support, information and training to women and children who are suffering abuse in each of the five areas it serves.

Domestic violence is defined as “the intentional and persistent physical or emotional abuse of a woman or of a woman and her children in a way that causes pain, distress or injury”. Women’s Aid believe that domestic violence is a pattern of deliberate, intentional behaviour used to exercise control and power by one person over another, which may take place over a prolonged period of time.

In the UK, one in four women will suffer domestic violence at some point in their lives.

“Women’s Aid helps many women going through difficult times,” said a spokesperson, urging: “Please support Christine with this brave fundraising activity and ask all your friends and family to donate.”
