Christmas and New Year hopes from Mervyn Storey

North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey has spoken of his hopes for a better future for Northern Ireland. Reflecting on the events of 2011, Mr. Storey said:

“As we approach Christmas and the onset of a new year it is always good to reflect on the events that shaped the year and also to set oneself to face the undoubted challenges that a new year will bring.

“Looking back then over a year fast flowing away from us and into a new year that is soon to dawn my thoughts turn to the next generation growing up. It is for our generation to create and mould a better future for the next generation. That will be the challenge for 2012 and beyond.

“We are still in the midst of very difficult economic conditions that have had a very serious impact upon businesses and families. Many people are living with real hardship as 2011 draws to a close. I for one only know too well the particular challenges facing our schools in the incoming year.

“2011 has been a difficult time for many people. No doubt 2012 will also bring its own difficulties. However I am convinced more and more that people of Northern Ireland and in particular the people of North Antrim will be more than a match for it.”

“I would like to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year. It is my particular wish that in 2012 we will each know the true happiness and peace that is to be found in the One who although born in a stable and had His first bed made of straw was the King of all kings.

“There is much hard work yet to be done in Northern Ireland. Yet at this time when we celebrate the birth of the Child who came to give hope to the human soul, that hard work shall be worth it, because of the hope of a better future that it may bring forth.”
