Christmas dinner to go ahead

Christmas dinner to go ahead

FOLLOWING a Coleraine Times appeal for help to fund a Christmas day dinner for senior citizens - we are pleased to announce that this year's event WILL take place after all.

There had been fears that the festive event, which celebrates its 21st anniversary this year, would be cancelled due to lack of funding.

But following our story, 900 has been donated by kind hearted folk from across the Province to help Margaret Peacock and her willing team of volunteers put on the dinner.

"I am delighted to announce that this year's Christmas dinner will be going ahead," Margaret told the Times.

"900 has been raised and we are really thrilled, I really can't thank those people who donated enough."

Taking place at the Mountfern Centre in Coleraine, senior citizens will be treated to a Christmas dinner, presents and a bit of craic to celebrate the special day - and it's all free.

"I don't want to hear of any senior citizen spending Christmas day alone," said Margaret.

"If you have a neighbour who lives alone, or know someone, give them my number and tell them to get in touch. We can arrange for transport on the day.

"Christmas Day is a special day, and it shouldn't be lonely for anyone living in the area."

If you would like more information, or to attend the dinner call Margaret on 703 52937.
