Christmas factor hits right note

WANNABE pop stars and eager fans gathered in Graham Gardens to take part in Lisburn’s very own answer to the X-Factor.

Over 200 people gathered to hear local musical talent in the form of singers and musicians battle it out for the top slot. The renditions on the night included everything from Bruno Mars to Taylor Swift making the playlist on the night.

While all the acts performed well the show was stolen by winner Rachel McMichael with her version of the hit Adele song ‘Set Fire to the Rain’.

Polly McGarrigle won second place, with her version of ‘To Make You Feel My Love’; and Lexi Spence, who sang Vanessa Carlton’s ‘A Thousand Miles’ was third.

The Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman William Leathem felt that a special prize should be presented to the Fort Hill Primary School Choir for their fabulous medley of songs. This group of young schoolchildren sang their hearts out and the crowd enjoyed their entry to the Christmas Factor.

Mr Leathem, said: “This year’s show produced both an excellent turnout in terms of participants and spectators despite the winter chill. It really was a fun and entertaining night and the Mayoress and I really enjoyed seeing the young people of Lisburn congregate to celebrate their musical talent. I would like congratulate the winner Rachel McMichael on her outstanding performance which made the judges decision very easy.”

The musical talent Show was organized by Lisburn City Centre Management (LCCM) in conjunction with Music Matters and Lisburn’s 98FM.

Lisburn City Centre Management (LCCM) manager and judge on the night, Patricia Elliott said: “It was a great night for talent in Lisburn and the whole event had a wonderful community feel with everyone coming together in the city centre.“Events like this are what Lisburn is about and Lisburn City Centre Management is really pleased with the final outcome: Lisburn really has the Christmas factor.”
