Christmas Lights and Carols in Ballycastle

CHRISTMAS sparkle and cheer will return to the streets of Ballycastle on Thursday 1st December, when Moyle District Council Chairman Cllr. Paudie McShane and friends gather together to illuminate the Town’s Christmas Lights.

In an evening that offers something for all the family, the Christmas Lights and Carols event will commence in Ballycastle Diamond at 6.30pm with the annual interdenominational Community Carol Service, followed by the ‘Big Switch-on’ at 7.30pm.

During the celebration service of carols and readings, everyone will be encouraged to join in and sing along with the seasonal carols led by a choir of students from Cross & Passion College and Ballycastle High School. After a joint Blessing from representatives of the three main churches in the Town, Cllr. McShane will be joined on stage by Ballycastle Chamber of Commerce Chairman Paul Cochrane, before VIP guest - brave young Ballycastle boy Conor McIlroy - takes centre stage to help with the countdown and switch on this year’s Christmas lights at 7.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to come along and join in with the seasonal celebrations, which of course wouldn’t be complete without a visit from one final special guest who will arrive shortly after the lights come on. Making sure the children won’t be disappointed with the many treats and surprises in store for them, the members of Community Rescue Service have promised to give Rudolf and his pals a rest by helping their good friend Santa Clause bring his gift-laden sleigh from the Seafront (where he is expected to land having come directly from the North Pole) to the Grotto in the Diamond.

DJ Jake will be on-hand throughout the evening to set the scene and provide us with lots of fun and music until 9pm, while Santa and his Elves meet the Children and share out the gifts.

The evening is supported by Moyle District Council, Ballycastle Chamber of Commerce, Ballycastle Church Action and the Community Rescue Service with assistance from Greenlight Gateway.
