Christmas Lottery thanks

Six groups from the Cookstown area including a Superstars club, a GAA club, a flute band and other community groups benefitted from the Big Lottery Fund's celebration Grant.

Team Aspie supports young people with Autism and their families in Cookstown and across Northern Ireland. They are using the £5,000 for a celebration event to help the wider community to learn about autism and the therapies and support services available, while providing a fun experience for families and young people with autism.

The Superstars Club based in Cookstown provides social and leisure activities to young people and adults who have learning difficulties. They are using the £4,546 to deliver a celebration evening to welcome newcomers to the area who have learning or physical disabilities and showcase the activities of the social club and café

St Michael’s GAC Lissan offers social and sporting opportunities for the community. They are using the £5,000 to celebrate the club’s 40th anniversary in 2017. They will hold an exhibition highlighting the history of the club followed by a family fun day.

Rural Community Network (NI) received £4,970 which they will use to celebrate 25 years of the group’s existence through a showcase event and evening celebration.

Montober Flute Band from Cookstown received a grant of £5,000. The Cookstown group brings people of all ages together through the playing of musical instruments. The project will deliver a social evening and commemorative book celebrating the band’s centenary year.

First Steps Women’s Centre provides training, support and education to women and their families in the Mid Ulster area. They are using the £1,500 to recognise, promote and celebrate the importance of women.

Joanne McDowell, Big Lottery Fund NI Director, said: “Today’s Big Lottery Fund grants celebrate what’s special about individual communities across Northern Ireland. From arts festivals to cultural activities and fun days, these events will bring people together to volunteer, have fun and meet more people in their area.
