Christmas tree vandalised in Moira village

There was upset over the Christmas period in Moira as it was revealed that vandals had attacked the Christmas tree in the village.

It was reported to the police that an unknown number of people had caused criminal damage to the tree over the weekend of December 14 and 15.

Local police received a report of criminal damage to the tree in the Main Street area of Moira on Sunday December 15.

A spokesperson for the police explained: “It was reported that at approximately 3am, a number of unknown persons caused damage to a Christmas tree.”

They have also issued an appeal for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and speak to them as soon as possible.

Lisburn Councillor John Palmer said he was very disappointed that people had attacked the Christmas tree in the village.

“I am very disappointed that damage has been caused to the lights and decorations on Moira’s Christmas tree,” said Mr Palmer.

“When I was told that the lights on the tree weren’t working, at first I thought the storm may have damaged them but then I found out they had been vandalised.”

Mr Palmer continued: “I have spoken to the local neighbourhood police officers and I hope that someone will have information that can help them to apprehend the culprits.

“It is disappointing that someone would wreck something put up for the enjoyment of the local community,” added Mr Palmer.
