Church at capacity for official opening

NONAGENARIAN George Apsley returned Carrick Methodists to their West Street/Albert Road home on Saturday afternoon.

This lifelong member of the congregation, who was born in 1915, cut the ribbon at the official unveiling of the new church.

The President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, Rev Paul Kingston declared the building open and dedicated it. His theme was the words of Jesus – "I will build My Church".

The church was at capacity for the service with a large overflow having to be accommodated in the hall.

Opening celebrations continued on Sunday and each evening, Monday to Wednesday. The Guest Preacher at these was the Rev Philip Hacking from Sheffield, whose addresses were all taken from the book of Nehemiah. These were challenging and encouraging for a congregation beginning a new chapter in its life and witness.

This Saturday (11 September) the church will be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm for viewing.

With the memorable opening celebrations behind them the congregation looks forward to a variety of services and activities ministering, in Christ's name, to people of all ages.
