Churches come together for Christian Unity Sunday

The service was led by Rev Dr. Ivan Hull, chairman of the Tuesday Group, who also gave the address based on the service theme “Changed by the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Singing was led by Archy McNeill and instrumentalists with St Cedma’s Singers and choir members from other churches. The projectionist was Andrew Hull.

A special part of the service came from young people representing various schools and organisations who read passages from the Bible.

One of the first readers was Mason Kerr from Roddensvale School, who set a very high standard for the others to follow.

The other readers were Callum McKay (Boys’ Brigade), Luke McKee (Larne High School), Anna Callan (St Killian’s College) and Adam Graham, Jardanne McRandal and Danielle Murray (Larne YMCA).

Catherine Black from Larne Borough Council and the council were thanked for producing service sheets and for the use of the McNeill Theatre for the service.

On the Friday following the Unity Service, Rev Dr Hull, accompanied by Patricia McNeill, attended the morning Assembly at Roddensvale School and presented a cheque for £400, collected from those attending the service, to senior pupil Mason Kerr.

School principal John Madden thanked all who contributed this money and said that it would be used for the school gift fund towards music therapy, which plays such an important part in overcoming disabilities and in the education of these young people who have special needs.

The next meeting of the Tuesday Group will be held on Tuesday, February 21 in Larne Methodist Church Hall when the guest will be Rev Chris Bennett who will speak on the theme “Working together in the Titanic Quarter.”
