Churches step up to help

LOCAL churches will be lending a helping hand to the Haiti quake appeal.

Shankill Parish Church will hold a soup and roll lunch on the third Sunday in February where people can donate to the relief effort.

Hill Street Presbyterian Church have already donated 1,000 to the Haiti fund and will hold two special offerings during their Sunday services this week and next.

St Peter's Parish Church have asked their congregation to donate to the quake appeal with all proceeds going directly to Trocaire who are already on the ground in the devastated country.

The Salvation Army has already sent 5,000 from the proceeds of its charity shop to the appeal, they will also be holding a collection on Sunday for members to donate to the fund.

The church is planning to prepare and send more than 44,000 lbs of pre-packaged emergency rations to the country along with emergency disaster teams.
