Churches Unite to Pray for Haiti

PEOPLE from across the denominations gathered at the First Presbyterian Church (Non-Subscribing) in Crumlin on Sunday afternoon to pray for the people of Haiti following the devastating earthquake that occurred there last month.

The service of prayer, meditation and reflective music from the Taiz tradition was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Scott Peddie, with prayers and scripture readings from Rev. Patsy Holdsworth (Ballinderry Moravian Church), Rev. Liz Hewitt (Glenavy Methodist Church), Rev. John Rutter (St. John's Church of Ireland, Crumlin), Rev. John Murdock (Killead and Loanends Presbyterian Churches), Fr. Luke McWilliams (St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Glenavy) and Fr. Brendan Smyth (Mater Dei Roman Catholic Church, Crumlin).

A total of 320 was raised in a freewill offering taken at the end of the service. This will be donated to the Christian Aid and Trcaire Haiti disaster relief funds.
