City firm to tackle youth joblessness

A LONDONDERRY online services company with a current staff complement of over 50 has launched a new scheme to tackle youth unemployment and create new jobs in the city.

Foyle MP Mark Durkan welcomed the launch of Learning Pool’s Rising Star programme stating: “I am delighted to hear the news that Learning Pool has launched a new scheme to create further jobs in Derry.

“Having worked with the company since it formed in 2006, I have been persistently impressed by the can-do attitude and enthusiasm they have shown – as well as their ability to steadily increase the number of employees locally (to more than 50).”

He said it was proof of what a local company could achieve despite the worldwide economic downturn.

“Indeed, at a time of recession, Paul and Mary (Learning Pool directors) have shown what a growing local business can achieve with determination and the right support.

“They have firmly established themselves as a leader in the UK market of public sector e-learning and I have every confidence that they will continue to build their business overseas and grow their employment base in the North West.

“Those of us in the political sphere must do whatever we can to enable firms like Learning Pool to meet that potential.”
