City Grand Lodge 2013 celebrations

PLANS are at an advanced staged for a myriad of colourful events during 2013 courtesy of the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge.

The big ‘launch’ event happens this weekend with ‘The Grands’ in Waterside Theatre on Saturday evening.

According to City Grand Orange Lodge PRO, Victor Wray, there will be cultural events throughout the year, as well as workshops and a family fun day.

“We are hoping to bring over the Grand Masters of England, Scotland and Ireland for the July 12 celebrations and at the end or February or start of March we are hoping to formally launch a diary of events for the year. Funding is slowly coming together, but when the programme is in place there will be something for everyone.

“We are very hopeful at this moment in time of securing funding for the UK CIty of Culture and hopefully we will be securing funding from the Big Lottery Fund and other big funders so that we can make this year’s celebrations events to remember for everyone who comes to the city,” he said.

For now, however, the focus is on the Orange Community Awards, or ‘The Grands’ as they are affectionately known, and particularly on Kilaloo True Blues LOL621, which has a banner in the final line-up for the banner competition. All are painted by William Magowan and were unfurled for the first time during 2012.
