City travellers can now jet to Tenerife

LOW budget airline Ryanair has confirmed direct weekly flights to Tenerife from Londonderry are now available with City of Derry Airport Operations (CODA) Ltd chairman, Roy Devine, hailing the development as great news for the city and region.

The announcement comes days following confirmation that the direct Alicante route will continue again this summer in addition to the Faro service.

Roy Devine said: “The sun holiday destinations are extremely popular with air travellers from this city and region. We recorded almost 36,000 passengers choosing the two sunshine destinations operated in 2010 by Ryanair and it is important that City of Derry Airport continues to grow this leisure business.

Chairperson of the Airport Committee, Alderman Maurice Devenney also welcomed the announcement saying: “This is a positive development for City of Derry.

“It’s good for consumers as it provides more choice and value when planning ahead for summer holidays. The option for direct European flights has always been an ambition for the city and region and I am delighted to see continued growth in this area.”

Airport manager Damien Tierney said he was confident Tenerife would be a popular destination.
