Clean-up of river for Olympic festival

As the Olympic Festival in Dervock draws closer, the clean-up in the village continues.

This time it is the turn of the river, which runs through the heart of the village.

This week River Agency workers have been working very hard to remove litter and weeds from the river.

Dervock and District Community Association who have been working with other statutory agencies to maintain the village are very pleased with the progress.

Chairperson Frankie Cunningham said: “In conjunction with our partners in the various agencies, we are lobbying for disabled fishing stands along the river so that we are able to provide a shared space and inclusiveness for all.

“We see the benefits of working in partnership with statutory agencies highlighting issues for the benefit of the community.”

Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Culture and Agriculture Committees is looking into the provision of Disabled Fishing stands which have been part of the village plan as access to the proposed stands are already in place and have been for some time.
