Cllr McKillop praises Transport NI action

Salt boxes provided at the top of Gortaclee Road in Cushendall will be a ‘saving grace’, according to SDLP Councillor Margaret Anne McKillop who has thanked Transport NI for their prompt response to her request.

She said: “The quick response by Transport NI to put salt boxes in place has been a saving grace

especially for parents and grandparents bringing children to and from school as this is the main route used when going to St Mary’s Primary School.

“Indeed, salt boxes strategically placed in all locations have been greatly appreciated by road

users whether pedestrians or drivers.

“The number of people who suffer fractures during snow and ice can be substantially reduced where public areas are salted.

“The provision of salt boxes is particularly important in rural areas and in places such as schools is very useful.”

Cllr Margaret Anne McKillop said she would also like to take this opportunity to thank Transport NI for agreeing to grit the school routes following concerns from parents at three of the primary schools in the Glens.

Parents contacted councillor McKillop to say the roads had been treacherous to drive and walk on especially on icy mornings. “Hopefully this will alleviate the problem,” said the councillor.
