Clonoe Parish mourns '˜wonderful' priest who served area for 32 years

Fond tributes have been paid to Clonoe priest Father Kieran MacKeone who sadly passed away at Craigavon Area Hospital in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Very Reverend Father MacKeone had been with the parish since 1984. Aged 90, he was originally from Carrickmore and was first ordained to the priesthood in 1950.

A post on Clonoe Gallery breaking news of his death today (Monday), said: “We regret to inform you that Very Rev Kieran MacKeone PE.AP passed away peacefully in Craigavon Area Hospital in the early hours of Monday morning.

“His mortal remains will be brought to St Patrick’s Church, Clonoe this evening (Tuesday) for the weekly Novena Mass at 8pm (and) will rest in Clonoe for the next two nights.”

The Tall Cross procession, which was due to take place tonight in the parish, has also been postponed until Monday, September 26.

Tributes to the Very Reverend Father said he was “a wonderful man who will be sorely missed”.

“Very respected and lovely priest, May Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him Rest in Peace,” said Theresa Devlin.

Angela Quinn added: “May he rest in peace. So many many happy memories already coming to mind his love for our blessed mother being one. She will be looking after him.”
