Clough PS safety scheme welcomed

Mr Swann received the announcement from his Ulster Unionist Party colleague and Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy after writing to him for an update on the proposed safety works at the village’s school near Ballymena.

Minister Kennedy said his Department “proposes to deliver a scheme during the summer months to improve facilities for pedestrians and to mitigate the resultant loss of available car parking on Drumagrove Road”.

The Minister also revealed that, subject to funding being made available, the road safety scheme will include ‘School Keep Clear’ zig-zag markings on Drumagrove Road and in the existing lay-by; new junction road markings at the entrance of Galdanagh Drive; and, ‘bar markings’ in front of the lowered kerbs at the top end of the lay-by.

It also includes a new two-metre wide footway on Drumagrove Road which will link into the existing section of footway.

An additional 13 car parking spaces within the existing car parking lay-by is also planned as part of the scheme, the Minister revealed in his response.

Commenting on that news, Assemblyman Swann said: “I warmly welcome my party colleague’s announcement about the road scheme which when completed will greatly enhance the safety at the school for parents, pupils, relatives and staff.”
