Clough wedding date for Man Utd star

There was plenty of glitz and glamour in the village of Clough at the weekend when multi-millionaire Premiership star Jonny Evans married his model and TV presenter fiancée Helen McConnell.

The 25-year-old blonde beauty said ‘I do’ in front of more than 100 family and friends including a select few of the Manchester United and Northern Ireland defender’s footballing pals at Clough Presbyterian Church.

Buses ferried guests including ex-United players Darron Gibson, John O’Shea, David May and Jonny’s brother Corry, who is now with Premiership side Hull City, to the countryside ceremony.

Beautiful Helen wore a lace white gown with a sweetheart neckline and a classic full-length veil, as she held a bouquet with a pastel palette.

The likes of Wayne Rooney, Alex Ferguson and Rio Ferdinand were unable to make it due to prior commitments.

But their absence did little to dampen the spirits of around one hundred locals who turned out to catch a glimpse of the stunning bride and her footballer beau.

Around 40 members of the public were even allowed inside the ivory rose-and-ribbon-decorated church to watch the service — conducted by the bride’s father, Reverend Ken McConnell.

Rev McConnell, who is a devout Man United fan, raised giggles from guests when he quipped to his new son-in-law: “I don’t know what’s scarier for you Jonny — standing here or playing in front of 70,000 people.”
