Cloughmills woman banned from driving

A CLOUGHMILLS woman has been banned from the road for a year and fined a total of £400 for driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Jacqueline Axon (42), of Church Hill Avenue, had the offences detected on August 21 last year, North Antrim Magistrates Court in Coleraine was told last Wednesday.

The court heard the defendant had driven from Cloughmills to Ballycastle. She was suffering from a medical problem and she went to hospital where she spent several days.

She later admitted to police she had driven the car whilst disqualified and without insurance.

A defence lawyer said his client had not come to the attention of a court until July last year when she was disqualified from driving.

District Judge Richard Wilson said Axon had to understand that driving whilst disqualified can often lead to being sent to jail.
