The village Community Youth Club meets in the local community centre every Tuesday night and more than forty local children attend to take part in a number of activities designed to give them something positive to do in their leisure hours.

Club spokesperson, Dinah Richmond, said the youngsters had a number of sports to choose from including basketball, netball and football as well as arts and crafts. They also had dance lessons.

“It is a great opportunity for these young people to meet in comfortable surroundings and enjoy doing something just a little different from school. We are cross community and are happy to accommodate newcomers,” Dinah told the Times.

A number of volunteers are present to supervise the proceedings and Dinah thanked them for their contribution.

The Club are grateful for the financial support given by Awards for All that has enabled them to go on a variety of trips, purchase equipment and generally keep things going throughout the year.

“We also have parents volunteering to help with our weekly sessions and that’s very encouraging,” Dinah said.

A number of functions are planned in the coming weeks.
