Clown Doctors role for Aiobheann

A COLERAINE woman has been handed an exciting new post which seeks to bring a smile to sick children.

Aoibheann Kelly is the new Creative Director of Clown Doctors, an organisation that visits acutely sick, disabled and life-limited children in hospitals across Northern Ireland.

Speaking about her new role, Aoibheann said: “I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to take on such an important and fulfilling role as Creative Director of ClownDoctors Northern Ireland.

“I am delighted to have started 2010 by taking up my new post.”

A former pupil of Dominican College, Aoibheann performed with the Big Telly Theatre Company and was a pupil of local music teacher, Margaret Sloan.

After qualifying as a drama teacher and practioner from The Central School of Speech and Drama, Aoibheann went on to become Head of Drama at St. Michael’s Catholic Grammar School in London.

There Aoibheann made the decision to pursue a career in theatre, and subsequently trained as a Director in Theatre and Film at ARTTS International, followed by two highly successful years with ‘Riding Lights Theatre Company’ in York.

She then joined ‘Black Box Theatre Company’ in Liverpool as an Associate Director and Educational Co-ordinator.

Clown Doctors are funded by Arts Council of Northern Ireland; DHSC; Belfast City Council; BBC Children in Need; the Co-operative Foundation; and other local and national trusts and charities.
