Ryan Kelly, 20. of Battery Road, Coagh admitted the offences in relation to an incident on July 13 this year.

A court heard how police on patrol observed the defendant driving a Vauxhall Vectra in the Ardboe area, when police checks revealed the vehicle was not insured.

Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver who was the defendant. He admitted to police that he had taken his brother’s car without his consent.

This was confirmed by his brother during a short phone call.

Mr Kelly informed police he had taken his brother’s car as his own car had an oil light on and wasn’t going so well.

A defence solicitor for Mr Kelly told the court his client thought he may have been insured under his own insurance but accepts the offence.

District Judge John Meehan imposed a fine of £100 for taking the vehicle without authority. He also fined him £250 for driving without insurance and endorsed his licence with 8 penalty points. He was also ordered to pay a further £15.
