On Friday, the firm signed a €4 million contract with Dublin City Council that will see them build 22 modular homes in the city.

Should this first phase of development prove successful then the company could be in line for further contracts, valued at up to €40 million.

The contract, part of the council’s efforts to deal with the city’s homelessness crisis, will see the Tyrone firm manufacture and install the completed homes in time for Christmas.

As lead design and build contractor on the project, Western’s stunning design for the houses and huge capacity, boosted by the recent construction of a 2500m2 factory at their Mountjoy Road site gave them the edge over their rivals.

Western Building Systems are construction specialists, carrying out projects in the education, health and commercial sectors.

Among the contracts the firm are currently undertaking are a €16 million education campus in Ashbourne, Co. Meath and a £3 million Teaching Centre at the University of Essex.

Commenting after signing the contract, Western Building Systems, CEO, Martin McCloskey said: “We are delighted to be able to sign this contract with Dublin City Council. This will be a challenging project for both our staff and management team but we are confident that we can complete it successfully.”
