Mr Noel Dillon, defending, told the court that his client had issues with drugs and alcohol but was seeking professional help.

He said that this was his seventh conviction for no insurance and second for drink driving.

Handing down a total prison sentence of three months and a two year driving ban, District Judge John Meehan said that the time had come for the defendant to take responsibility for his actions.

He also imposed a fine of £100 and an offender’s levy of £25.
