Mother of two, Karen McGrath, was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer after being troubled with a persistent cough and experiencing breathlessness towards the end of 2014.

Doctors found a tumour of aproximently 10cm in Karen’s right lung, after which she went through a course of chemotherapy followed by numerous sessions of radiotherapy as part of a trial.

Despite being told the treatment was going well, it was during a routine checkup that Karen was advised the cancer had spread to her other lung, liver, bones and lymphnodes and she was given the devastating news that her condition was terminal.

Karen, who has three grandchildren and is engaged to be married this year, set up a fundraising page, and by Friday, £4,465 had been raised.

Karen, who has set a target of £25,000, said: “I am only a young woman and I’m not ready to leave my familly and my young grandchildren.”
