Coastguard training exercise at Giant's Causeway

Coastguard teams from Coleraine and Ballycastle took part in a training exercise at the Giant's Causeway on Wednesday night.

The night exercise gave the groups a chance to test their ability to respond to two simultaneous incidents, requiring the evacuation of injured casualties from separate locations, on the rocks, in darkness.

The exercise was conducted under the scrutiny of the local Senior Coastal Operations Officer, the Coastal Operations Area Commander, and two members of the Operational Service Performance Review Team.

The exercise concluded with the successful evacuation of both simulated casualties.

Close liaison was maintained throughout with National Trust staff based at the Causeway.
