Coffee counts where Macmillan Cancer Support are concerned

MACMILLAN Cancer Support is encouraging people in Ballymoney to join the World's Biggest Coffee Morning and help it provide services that make a real difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.

Macmillan Cancer Support aims to raise over 230,000 from this year’s event on Friday 24th September. The money will go towards providing medical, emotional, practical and financial help for people affected by cancer.

Last year in Ballymoney Macmillan provided 11,000 in small grants to help patients with anything from respite breaks to travel fares to hospital. Many people living in Ballymoney called our free telephone CancerLine or visited our mobile information and support centre when it was in the area.

Providing services like these is only possible because people support events like the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Fundraising manager for the North West Maria McGleenon, said: “We rely 100% on money raised by supporters. Last year in Northern Ireland, over 900 people joined the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and helped raise over 235,000.

“It’s an easy event to get involved in and there’s no right or wrong way to take part, especially as you can tailor it to suit yourself. And don’t worry if you can’t hold your event on the official coffee morning day, just organise it at a time that suits you.

“Remember, a little of what you fancy does Macmillan good - you can have a traditional coffee morning at home or work, organise a glamorous coffee-themed evening, or even serve up smoothies or herbal tea instead of coffee .

“The important thing is that all the money you raise will help improve the lives of people affected by cancer. So it’s a piece of cake to help Macmillan!”
