Coffee day gives boost to cancer fund

A coffee day held recently by a local lady has raised money for the little known charity, Boom Foundation.

Sandra McIlhatton opened the doors of her home at Farren Road, Ballymoney, to help provide finance for Sarcoma Cancer sufferers and to generate publicity for a charity that has only recently been launched.

It began after a young man Philip Wilson lost his battle to Sarcoma – a soft tissue and bone cancer in March of this year.

Coleraine girl, Leona Rankin, was due to have married Philip before the tragedy struck and this prompted Sandra, a relation of Leona, to do something in Philip’s memory. Her coffee day enjoyed tremendous support and so far has raised £600 which will be topped up by further promised donations.

Sandra was delighted at the outcome and would like to thank all those who came to her home as well as the helpers who prepared the food.

She has also a big thank-you to pay to those who donated prizes for a raffle.

“My main aim is to donate money that can be used in a positive way to do something for sufferers,” Sandra said.

Sandra is considering organising more functions but has asked people to support a Gala Ball at the Titanic Quarter in Belfast on November 30.
