The council wanted to ensure that the young people of the area would be left with a permanent reminder of 42 years’ service to the community and the coin was just one of a number of initiatives adopted.

The coin highlights aspects of the Coat of Arms on one side including symbols of the curlew to denote the wildlife on the Ballymoney area and a heraldic fountain to represent the Altnahinch Dam and Garry Bog. A horse features as a supporter to the arms of Lord Macartney and the boar indicates the town’s bacon industry.

The last ever Mayor of Ballymoney Ald Bill Kennedy is pictured here with community representative Sammy McClements with the coins.
