Cole: ‘It was a privilege to be Mayor’

LOOKING back on his year in office, councillor Sam Cole said that it was an opportunity for the borough to ‘shine’.

Speaking at last Tuesday night’s Annual General Meeting, councillor Cole spoke about how it was a great ‘honour and privilege’ to be the Mayor in an ‘eventful year.’

Remembering the many events throughout the year, councillor Cole spoke highly of the golf championships in Portrush, at the start of his year in office. He also recalled the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and how it gave him a chance to meet many of the borough’s citizens at street parties and events.

In the Olympic year, the DUP man said that the Chambers brothers and Alan Campbell had put ‘our borough on the map’ and reminded members that the Coleraine trio had in fact won more medals that the huge country of India.

Describing last weekend’s Van Morrison concert at Dunluce Castle as ‘another first for the borough’ councillor Cole concluded by thanking his party members for their support in the year passed and his deputy, the SDLP’s Maura Hickey.

“It was wonderful experience, meeting the public who are the live blood of our community. It has been a wonderful year and one I won’t forget.
