Coleraine bereaved by suicide support group meetings

THE Bereaved by Suicide Project is an initiative put in place by the Northern Trust in recognition of the devastating effect suicide can have on family members and friends.

The project aims to generate awareness of the wide range of support organisations, individual counselling services and support groups available that people can turn to if they have been bereaved in this way.

The Coleraine support group meet on the second last Tuesday of each month at The Sandel Centre, Newbridge Road, Coleraine. The group is open to all family and friends over the age of 18 who has been bereaved by suicide.

“The group have met twice already and the feedback has been very positive, i would like to encourage anyone who has been bereaved by suicide to come along, they will be very welcome.” said Danielle Gallagher, Bereavement Support Officer, Northern Trust The project works in partnership with community and voluntary groups and through linking with The Patchwork group in Coleraine it was able to secure funding from the Public Health Agency and administered through Causeway Rural and Urban Community Network to hold facilitated bereaved by suicide group support meetings in Coleraine.

The next meeting dates are: Tuesday, March 20; Tuesday, April 17; Tuesday, May 22 and Thursday, June 19.
