Coleraine fan facing ban

Grant David Alcorn (24), of Elms Park in Coleraine, appeared at the town’s Magistrates Court on June 20 in connection with a charge of possessing the flare at his side’s last game of the season on May 6 this year - a crucial Europa League play-off at Coleraine Showgrounds against Glentoran which they lost 2-1.

The charge states that ‘without lawful authority had in your possession an article or substance ...namely a flare, when you were in attendance at a regulated football match’.

A prosecutor told an earlier court hearing that when the case is concluded she will be potentially seeking a Football Banning Order.

Back at Coleraine Magistrates Court on June 26, a prosecutor said evidence is still being collated in relation to the Banning Order.

Alcorn has yet to enter a guilty or not guilty.

His defence solicitor Denise Gillan said Alcorn also faces a “not entirely dissimilar” matter at Ballymena Magistrates Court which is listed for later this month to fix a date for a contest.

In the Ballymena case, Alcorn is charged with being disorderly at North Road, Ballymena, on February 12 this year when Coleraine were away to Ballymena.

Regarding his case before Coleraine Court, it has been adjourned to July.

Meanwhile, at Coleraine Court on Friday a man pleaded not guilty to being disorderly in Coleraine on the day the town team were beaten in a dramatic game against Linfield. Aaron Fielding (21) of Cromlech Park, Portstewart, was charged with being disorderly at Ballycastle Road in Coleraine on Saturday February 20 this year. Coleraine had been beating Linfield 2-0 in a league game but dramatically lost 3-2 with the winner coming six minutes from the end.
