Coleraine is top in UK for Pharmacy

Ulster University pharmacy students Ryan Rosbotham, Andrew Allen, Hannah Steele and Sara Gardiner celebrate news that the University has just been ranked top out of all UK universities for pharmacy and pharmacology for the second year running. Ulster Universityâ¬"s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences provides world-leading teaching and research that helps broaden employment opportunities and promote best practice. The independent survey carried out by The Guardian assessed factors including staff/student ratios, student satisfaction and teaching quality.

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, based at the University’s Coleraine campus has scooped the top award for the second year running.

According to the results of The Guardian University survey, 97 percent of students were satisfied with the overall quality of the course, based on the National Student Survey (NSS).

Over 98 percent of final year students studying the Coleraine based course, were satisfied with the teaching they received, based on the NSS.

According to Ulster University there are currently 180 students enrolled.

Students enrolled at the Coleraine based course learn in the University’s state-of-the art facilities.

According to the prospectus, students will ‘learn the basic sciences that underpin the development of medicines and also gain the clinical knowledge that will allow you to dispense, and possibly prescribe, these medicines in the future.’

Ulster University have established close links with pharmaceutical services that surround the University, such as those in neighbouring community pharmacies and the local pharmaceutical industries.

In a statement, Professor Paul McCarron, Head of Ulster University’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences described the result as ‘outstanding’ and paid tribute to the students and staff of the faculty.

“This is an outstanding result for Ulster University, confirming our top position in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the UK.

“It is a testament to the quality of teaching and the student experience that our students enjoy, allowing us to develop the next generation of fresh thinking, pioneering and career ready professionals.”

The pharmacy course at Queen’s was ranked second.
