Coleraine Library to close for refurbishment

Coleraine Library will be closed from Monday, March 13 for refurbishment, with the anticipated project value estimated at £2 million.

During this closure, a temporary library will be located in the Diamond Shopping Centre. Work is currently being completed at the temporary premises so the library can open to the public during week commencing 20 March.

Keep an eye on www.librariesni.org.uk for date of opening.

Opening hours of the library in the Diamond Shopping Centre are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30am - 5:30pm; Thursday from 9:30am - 8:00pm and Saturday 9:30am - 5:00pm.

The refurbished Coleraine Library will benefit from significant improvements to public access in to and inside the building, including a new entrance lobby with passenger lift to all floors. The extension will also accommodate a new community meeting room and a microfilm reader room, to maximise use of the library’s heritage resources.

Improvements to the facilities will include a larger children’s library on the lower ground floor, new decoration, fixtures and fittings throughout and additional toilet facilities for customers including new disabled access toilets. The building will be given improved insulation, replacement roof covering, double glazed windows and energy efficient heating and lighting.

As the library is a listed building, Libraries NI is taking advice from planning and conservation experts to ensure that the work will maintain the architectural heritage of the building.

During this time, customers can also visit nearby libraries operating as usual, including:
