Coleraine line to close on 5 weekends

The completion of re-signalling works and a passing loop on the Coleraine to Londonderry railway line will see the track closed for five weekends over the next two months.

Translink NI Railways is advising passengers that there will be five weekend closures (Saturday and Sunday) between Coleraine and Londonderry in October and November 2015, as part of the major engineering project.

The closure dates will be October 3rd& 4th; 10th & 11th; 17th & 18th; 24th & 25th and November 7th & 8th 2015.

The line will remain open on Halloween weekend.

All Londonderry train services will operate between Belfast and Portrush as per the current published timetable.

Two bus substitution services will operate betweenColeraine and Derry~Londonderry (direct) and Coleraine and Bellarena serving Castlerock.

Passenger information will be displayed at all stations.

A spokesperson for the transport company said work on the latest stage of development on the line should be completed by the end of next year.

“This work will secure the long term future and sustainability of this important rail corridor and when completed it will mean a more resilient rail service to and from Derry~Londonderry including the potential for more frequent and faster journeys.

Works are due to be largely completed by late 2016.

“We would remind road users and anyone using user worked crossings to remain vigilant as level crossing barriers will be in use and there will be trains operating both day and night.
