He topped the public vote in his category, being awarded the winner of the ‘Next Generation’ category, and then received a further £5,000 grant as the overall TalkTalk Digital Hero 2014.

Andrew has also been awarded a prestigious Gold CREST award by the British Science Association. He’s now developing a pilot program designed to teach secondary school teachers in Northern Ireland innovative ways of using the Raspberry Pi in the classroom.

DUP East Londonderry MP Mr Campbell, who attended Tuesday’s ceremony in Parliament congratulated Andrew.

Mr Campbell said: “I want to congratulate Andrew on this impressive achievement. To win one of the categories was a significant achievement in itself, but to be the overall winner demonstrates the high esteem in which the judges held him.

“This is as a result of his great work with children, providing workshops and courses and teaching them about computer science.

“He is passionate about technology and computing and the effect that they can have in the classroom and in the educational development of young people.

“I am pleased that the work that he has done in relation to this has been recognised.”

The MP concluded: “Andrew is a credit to Coleraine and to Northern Ireland and I know that he will continue to be successful in his endeavours.”
