Coleraine man went on crime spree

Daryl Quigley (29), of Laurel Avenue, Coleraine, pleaded guilty to a flurry of shoplifting offences when he appeared at the town’s Magistrates Court via video link from prison on Monday.

On December 2 last year he stole a gold necklace with a ruby jewel worth £575 from Buchanan’s Jewellers in Coleraine and £50 worth of household goods from Poundland.

Ten days layer he was back in Poundland and stole £40 of household goods and smoking sundries worth £20.

Also in December he ‘converted criminal property, namely electronic goods. Quigley struck at Heaton’s in Coleraine stealing clothing and a candle set on December 14 whilst in possession of cannabis and also stole two televisions worth £378 from Asda, Coleraine. He was back in Asda three days later and attempted to steal a £199 TV.

Also in December he conned a taxi driver out of a fare of £48.50 when he made off without payment.

At court on Monday he pleaded guilty to all the offences. Back on December 17 he was alleged to have hijacked a taxi belonging to Radio Taxis, Coleraine, and allegedly threatened to kill a man. Those charges are to sent to the Crown Court and his case was adjourned to January 25.

Quigley, who is serving eight months in jail, told Coleraine Magistrates Court earlier this month he was ‘off the rails on drink and drugs’.
