Coleraine Marina charges increased

COLERAINE Borough Council has voted to increase marina charges in line with inflation.

At last Tuesday night’s Leisure and Environment Committee meeting the charges were ratified.

Corporate Director of Leisure and Development, Richard Baker, had proposed that there should be no change in the fees, but councillors felt that marina charges should be increased.

UUP councillor Harding proposed that charges should be increased in line with inflation.

“If our berths are full then we should increase increase the fees,” he said.

“A few hundred pounds is not going to make a big difference to someone who has a boat of over seven metres.”

His proposal was seconded by DUP councillor Adrian McQuillan.

Independent councillor Christine Alexander asked if there was a waiting list for Council marinas.

Steve McCartney, Council’s Outdoor Recreation Manager, replied that there was a waiting list for Portrush Harbour. This was not the case at Coleraine Marina, as the absence of a lift had “sent people else where.”

The charges will be increased in line with inflation from April 1.
