Coleraine PCSP needs our support: McCann

THE spokesman for the East Londonderry Conservative Association has expressed dismay over the recent row among Coleraine councillors on whether the Coleraine Police and Community Safety Partnership (Coleraine PCSP) should use the council chamber for meetings.

Criticising comments made by the UUP, Jack McCann said: “It is very unfortunate that, with statements such as ‘we just can’t open the door’ or ‘the Chamber needs kept especially for Coleraine Borough Council meetings’, certain Council members and the local UUP are displaying an attitude which is rooted in the past, instead of showing a progressive attitude to the way forward for local politics.

“They were elected by the public – so why are they not supporting such a move to encourage more public engagement with the council?

“In my opinion, allowing the Coleraine PCSP to hold their meetings in the Chamber would promote their status in the borough which would be an excellent catalyst to assist them with their work from the New Year.”

“Thankfully the motion was carried by eleven votes to three as 2012 draws to a close. I do hope that in 2013 a New Year will bring new thinking to some council members which will aid the Coleraine PCSP with their development.

“I hope that the Coleraine PCSP receives the greatest of support from councillors to encourage a year of community confidence, safety and better relations for 2013.”
