Coleraine tremendously proud of 'Golden Girl'

EAST Londonderry MLA David McClarty has said that the people of the Borough and town of Coleraine are tremendously proud of local girl Jenna McCorkell who took part in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

“I would just like to place on record how proud the people of not just the town of Coleraine, but indeed the whole Borough are at the achievements of Jenna McCorkell,” alderman McClarty told the Times.

“Like many of them, I stayed up into the early hours to watch her performance in Vancouver where she became the first skater from Northern Ireland to compete in a Winter Olympics.

“I know she will be feeling disappointed at how things turned out, but she need not doubt for one second that she has brought more success and honour to Coleraine and Northern Ireland.”

Alderman McClarty added: “She has joined a long and illustrious list of sportsmen and women from Coleraine who have reached the peak of the careers. We have seen local footballers go to World Cups, Rugby players have toured with the British Lions and rowers have competed at the Summer Olympics. Now a local girl has competed at the Winter Olympics.

“Through skill, talent and a huge amount of hard work and dedication, Jenna has made it to the Olympics. The people of Coleraine are proud of her and medal or no medal she is still our ‘Golden Girl’.”
