Coleraine wins Ulster in Bloom award

COLERAINE has come up smelling of roses again at the 2010 Ulster in Bloom awards.

The ceremony, held in Lismore Castle last week, honoured Coleraine for the fourth time in five years. Coleraine beat off stiff competition from thirteen other towns, including Holywood, Dungannon and Maghera, in the Large Town Category of the annual competition.

The Mayor of Coleraine, Councillor Norman Hillis and Mr Paul Jess from Parks Nursery attended the event and accepted the award on behalf of the Borough.

The Mayor spoke after the ceremony and paid tribute to the Council workforce and associated partners.

"I was delighted to accept the award on behalf Coleraine Borough Council. Each year our Parks Nursery Team work very hard to maintain the high standards of floral displays and beds throughout the town for our residents and visitors to enjoy," said Cllr Hillis.

"This award today is testimony to their commitment for protecting and enhancing Coleraine's environment.

"I would like to thank Paul Jess, his colleagues at Parks Nursery, the Street Cleansing team, our statutory partners, the conservation volunteers and the Coleraine public who have collectively helped us to achieve this award."
