Colin takes presidency for Rotary's golden anniversary

Carrickfergus Rotary Club has welcomed a new president as it prepares to celebrate 50 years of service to the community.

The beginning of July marked the start of the new Rotary year when Brenda Houston, the outgoing president, handed over the chain of office to Colin McCarthy.

Reflecting on her term as leader, Brenda highlighted and congratulated the membership on their considerable achievements in providing support for local and international causes.

She thanked each office bearer and committee chair for their personal contribution and support and she thanked all the members for their commitment to the club and to her as president.

Brenda commented on the honour and privilege she felt in being entrusted with the leadership of the club and how much she had enjoyed the experience.

The incoming president installed Mary Sinnamon as honorary Secretary and Brenda Houston as honorary treasurer.

Colin congratulated the past president on an excellent year in office and he looked forward to leading the club through the activities outlined at its assembly and a year of celebrations for the 50th Anniversary.

William Cross, Rotary assistant governor and a member of the Rotary Club of Larne, also attended the first meeting of the new Rotary year for the Carrickfergus club to hand over long service certificates to four members who had completed 25 or more years in the service of Rotary locally and internationally.

The recipients included John Turner with 40 years service, Trevor Monteith 30 years and Stanley McAloney and Des Wilson 25 years each.

William congratulated each of them on their service to the community, their commitment to Rotary and to the Carrickfergus club.
