College concern at Area Planconsultation deadline

SCHOOLS have been given a tight deadline for the consultation process on the Area Plan proposals by the SELB.

Proposals by the Board include plans to restructure the Dickson Plan and establish two collegiates in Lurgan and Portadown.

It’s understood schools affected by the proposals didn’t receive the consultation documents until September 4 and are expected to have their responses in by October 26.

Lurgan College principal Trevor Robinson said: “I would express my concern at the deadline. The Board of Governors are currently discussing how the school will proceed.”

Meanwhile Portadown College Board of Governors have hit out at the tight deadline to consider the ‘radical’ proposals and have unanimously agreed to embark upon their own consultation process within the school community starting on November 9 and also externally with the communities who engage with the school.
