Collided with rear of vehicle

AN accident led to court for a Lurgan man after it was discovered he had no insurance.

Nigel William Leckey (45) of Bowens Lane in the town had been involved in a collision on Plantation Road.

The court was told the defendant had collided with the rear of another vehicle as it was waiting to turn right onto the Crowhill Road.

The drivers had exchanged details but the injured party later discovered Leckey was not insured and contacted police.

Leckey's defence representative said Leckey had been self-employed but his business has dissolved and he was doing "the odd driving delivery job".

Leckey had not realised he was not insured to drive the van and said it was an oversight.

On the matter of the careless driving, the court was told, it had been a matter of a lapse of concentration.

The District Judge Alan White said: "It's clear as a pikestaff it was careless driving."

For driving without insurance he fined Leckey 250 and endorsed six points on his licence. For careless driving a 50 fine was imposed.
