Combative Priorians take revenge

Priorians....3

North Down...2

PRIORIANS ladies team had a point to prove at St Columb’s Park on Saturday. The ladies were playing North Down for the third time this season, having lost their previous two.

From the starting whistle the home team dominated the game. Prior put continuous pressure on the North Down defence but they got a lucky break for a penalty corner and the first goal of the match.

Prior were not disheartened. They fought hard with the midfield and forwards linking well. Pushing into their attacking quarter the ball came across the circle allowing Emma Sproule to slot it into the goal.

The play continued in Priorians favour bringing the home side a lot of chances. A long corner taken by Ally Eakin found Claire Lightowlers who slapped the ball into the top corner of the net.

At 2-1 up the home side knew that North Down could still come back. They continued the high level of play as it was putting constant pressure on the visitors. Some great passing between players in to circle with Camilla Lyttle carrying the ball to the back line and crossing to Emma Sproule who once again beat the keeper with her shot.

After half time the play was even between the two sides. North Down took advantage of another quick break and caught Prior on the back foot. The score was 3-2. Unfortunately for North Down this was all they had to offer. Priorians fought to the final whistle to make sure they didn’t walk away with a draw. A well deserved victory for the home side.
