Come along to children’s exhibition at Island Centre

ISLAND Arts Centre is the perfect haunt for your Pumpkins, Pirates, Magicians and Pixies. Delights include ISLAND’s Hallowe’en Half Term Workshops & Movie Magic Monday–Wednesday, October 29-31, with optional wrap-around care and Abracadabra, ISLAND’s dedicated Children’s Art Exhibition inspired by the 25th Anniversary of the ‘Winnie the Witch’ books.

Each day there will be an over spilling cauldron of creativity. Arty antics include storyboarding, illustration, model making and much, much more, all inspired by a daily dose of movie magic. In the mornings Witches and Wizards attending the one day Halloween workshops can explore Korky Paul’s wonderful illustrations in the Winnie the Witch books, waving their wands of wonder to create clay-tastic sculptures, creepy collages, wriggling worms and a hocus pocus smorgasbord of spellbinding art.

In the afternoon’s classic Family Hallowe’en Films on the Big Screen include Roald Dahl’s The Witches (Monday October 29, 2pm), Casper the Friendly Ghost (Tuesday, October 30, 2pm) and Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit (Wednesday, October 31, 2pm). In the galleries children and their grown-ups can enter the magical world of Abracadabra - an exhibition of work by ISLAND Arts Centre’s resident ceramic artist, Andrea McCullough Alderdice. Inspired by Korky Paul’s illustrations in the ‘Winnie the Witch’ series of books for children, Andrea showcases her own creations alongside work by local schools and 24 budding artists who created fun ceramic pieces that will have all ages spell-bound. ISLAND’s Community Arts corridor is also very atmospheric as Halloween scenes have been brilliantly created by local schools and artist Anushiya Sundaralingam.

Visitors to the exhibition can enjoy the free Kids Arts Zone, where you can enter the quiz to win a Winnie Witch Book or join in the Competition to design your own Winnie Witch inspired character – with a chance to have it made into a ceramic sculpture.

A cackling good time is guaranteed! Just remember to Dress for Mess. The Halloween one day workshops run from 10am to 4pm Mon 29 – Wed 31 Oct or parents can opt for the extended hours from 9am–5pm. For further information please log onto islandartscentre.com or contact 028 92 509509.
