Come bat detecting in Gransha Woods

An evening of Bat Detecting is planned for October 30 from 6pm to 8pm at Gransha Woods.

Children can take part in games and batty craft activities while a presentation from Karen Healey, local bat expert and member of Nothern Ireland Bat Group, will dispel the myths around our only flying mammal and help you learn why bat species are under threat. Following the presentation, join a guided walk of the woodland to record which bat species are foraging there on that night. Bat detecting equipment will be provided. Participants should come dressed warmly, with waterproofs and suitable footwear and bring a torch if possible.

Gransha Woodis managed by The Conservation Volunteers and is on the right hand side after Waterside Hospital. The Mayor, Councillor Kevin Campbell, said: “Bats are a priority species in the Derry City Council’s Local Biodiversity Action Plan. It is important that the public learn how they can help bats while having a fun evening out.”

Places for the event are limited and booking is essential and to book a place contact Karen Healey, on 028 7136 3133 or email [email protected]
